The Tamron 18-200 does not have an untrasonic focus motor. According to reports, it makes about the same amount of noise as the Canon kit lens.
Here is a discussion of the Tamron and Sigma 18-200 lenses:

I?m asking for your help?
I?m going to buy my first SLR camera and it is going to be Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT). I have heard that kit lens isn?t the best one so I?m thinking about alternatives. At the beginning I would like to buy a wide-ranging and maximum functional lens but not too expensive one. My attention is paid to TAMRON AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD ASPHERICAL (IF) MACRO lens which seems to be high power zoom lens offering macro functions as well. That seems really nice but I?m not sure about TAMRON?s specific features like image (optical) stabilization option which is pretty important while shooting telezoom pictures. Another question is about lens?s engine ? does it have something like ultrasonic motor?
If anybody has mentioned lens or any other of TAMRON?s lenses I would really appreciate your comments about it.
