Question

What do I need to open an mp4?

Jun 4, 2012 4:36AM PDT

What do I need to open an "mp4?" A friend gave us a "SanDisk" (from a pc) with wedding video and when I try to play it, I get the message, "you cannot open the application Kodak EasyShare because it may be damaged or incomplete." The still photos that are on the same disk are OK. Dang.......... Thanks,

VLC Player should be able to handle it.

Right click the file and choose Open With

Then find QuickTime player.

VLC is a very versatile app though

Thanks, Jimmy and P... I was able to open it with QuickTime but got an echo to the audio part and the video
was not in sync with the audio. I couldn't find VLC in my applications folder..... would have sworn that I had downloaded it. Am anxious to see it. Will search some more.

Thanks, Jimmy & P....Problem solved. When I got my new MacBook, not all of my apps got transferred and VLC was one. Downloaded it and it worked fine. By the way, the wedding went off without a hitch and the reception and dance were a hoot.

MPlayer is a good app to have also

VLC is a great app, but it will not open every format. MPlayer has opened a few video files that has caused VLC to crash.

The problem with that
Jun 24, 2012 6:26AM PDT

The problem with that, is that MPlayer and VLC use the same libavcodec to power the video decoding, so it wouldn't really be all that wrong to say MPlayer and VLC are the same program.
