what do i need to hook my camcorder up.

Now i know this is vague but i will try my best. I bought a minidv camcorder about 3 years ago. I have a lot of footage i would like to import onto my computer. What program for the computer will i need and what will i have to buy to connect the camcorder to the computer? any help is much appreciated.

Windows: Windows Movie Maker (included)
Mac: iMovie (included)

Cable
Firewire- # of pins can vary on the computer side; usually 4 pins on the camcorder side

Apple Macintosh computers have had FireWire built in for many years - Most traditional Windows PCs have not. You may need to add a FireWire port.
