ROTFL!
by Paul C / February 5, 2006 10:42 PM PST

I'm reminded of John Lennon's remark that "I don't want to be a screaming Beatle at 80." Apparently, Mick Jagger doesn't mind being a screaming Rolling Stone at age 62 - but I do.

It's time for the Stones, who are IMO a mere parody of what they once were, to take Jerome Bettis' example and just shut it down.

Stones have become a cover band of themselves

Mick looked great, but there's just something ... umm ... icky about a 60-something y.o. man performing as he did in that attire.

One would also have thought that they could have found three Stones songs that could have been sung in their entirety without having to bleep out entire lines and creating awkward moments for a "family show".

The other members of the band were evidence for why they are called the Strolling Bones.

Aretha had it right. They were in MOTOWN for crying out loud, why not a Motown themed half-time show? Heck, have some current artists cover some classic tunes if need be!

went on for most of his show last night on why the NFL couldn't find an American act. Gee, not like m&m is the hottest act in America and he's from Detroit. Did you hear Grandpa Mick being interviewed about his thoughts on American football? Yech ! Of the thousand song, they picked three crappy ones and didn't perform that well. Sounded like they were just warming up. Did 1/2 time last 60 minutes too? Seemed long.

... well, at least it wasn't lip synced! Wink

I think there was something wrong with Neville's mic. Aretha was just off key, but certainly she could do a good "regular" version of the anthem.

Not great.....

.....but Mick and the boys keep on ticking. The production was horrible as well. Video not too bad, but the televised audio was horrible.

The part of the entire Superbowl presentation that was even worse than the Stones was the National Anthem and the horrible rendition given it. Embarassing to say the least. The National Anthem is NOT a Motown Classic.

Even this years commercials were lack-lustre.

And something was wrong with Aaron Neville's mike because the parts where it was a "duet" had Aretha loud and clear and his audio muddled.

Why not Aretha Franklin just using her awesome pipes for the anthem "normal style" and then a big Motown halftime show?

The last one I enjoyed was U2.

I liked the Fabio commercial and some of the Ameriquest ones. And the baby Kleidsdale (sp?) one was precious!

The folks in charge of SB halftime shows have definitely played it safe for the past couple of years. I enjoyed McCartney last year enormously. I have always enjoyed the Stones' classic stuff, but their performance yesterday left me thinking, ''these guys are past their prime, but if someone were to give me a ticket to a concert, I would still go in a heartbeat!'' Happy

Apparently Sprint paid a record $12 mil for sponsoring the halftime show this year. I have also heard that each of the Stones members got a mil+ for performing. Not bad wages for a bunch of old guys doin' what they like.
