Does yesterday's early sales count?
Nov 27, 2008 11:16PM PST

The Sony Style store had (and probably still do) a BDPS350 Profile 2.0 BluRay player marked down to $199 from $299. (If you look around, you'll see many places discounting this model today, like Kmart, etc.). However, there was also a $50/off coupon floating around, too, that made this a $149 (plus tax but free shipping) deal. That's about as low as I've seen a quality BluRay 2.0 machine. T

The PS3 is available for a net total of $249 if you sign up for a Sony Credit card that gives you $150 off first purchase. Too rich for my blood, and the PS3 uses a bluetooth remote vs. IR, which was a dopey decision by Sony.

Note that many of the best bargains today are available through the Microsoft Live Search cashback program. Ebay has a 30% off cash back single item purchase today, so I'm looking to see if I can score one of the higher-end Garmin GPS units. Many of the lower end Garmins (and Tom Tom's) are on sale today. The Garmin 200 is below $100 in some places. I want the bells and whistles, though, so I'm thinking more along the lines of the 760.

Good deals sites (among many) that I use:

slickdeals.net
fatwallet.com
bensbargains.net
ableshopper.com
techdeals.net

Ben's, mentioned above, has a convenient black Friday tracker that lets you know what's still in stock at several national stores:

Good luck!

not much
Nov 28, 2008 9:00AM PST

Given the sucky economy, everyone on my gift list wants practical and non-fun, non-tech gifts. Clothing, non-tech toys (no batteries, no charging needed), and gift cards from retailers that I hope will remain in business.

I stocked up on a bunch of 4GB SanDisk Sansa Clips from Best Buy (a brilliant buy @ $34.99!!!! Today and Tomorrow) and headphones that I hope to give as gifts in the upcoming year.

After watching Holiday Help Desk, I've talked myself into waiting until after Super Bowl to buy a new TV.

I got...
Nov 28, 2008 1:03PM PST

I got...

4 cups of yogurt at an 80ct (count'em 8-0) pack of dryer sheets! Yay! Wink (I got them in the afternoon...not at 5am, etc.)

Okay, okay - seriously, I hope folks had at least somewhat of a good time on any shopping adventures today Happy

Best,
Shalin

Long sleeved shirts
Nov 29, 2008 1:52AM PST

Got a couple long sleeved shirts at Kohls. After standing in line 20 minutes to check out, I had no desire to go anywhere else. I really didn't see any killer deals in the ads. I am looking for a laptop, but most of the deals out there, again, seem somewhat standard.

Meh

Couple pairs of jeans and a sweater. I always aim to have my Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving, so I don't have to charge anything. It's easier to buy things a piece at a time over the rest of the year than all at once in November and December.

More brag and moan stuff
Nov 30, 2008 10:35PM PST

I'm surprised at the people who've responded that say they actually went out to shop vs. online. I know it's dicey buying clothes online, of course, but I can't stand the crowds here in the northeast. Of course, there was that horrible Walmart tragedy not too far from me on Long Island. Those camping out days at B&M stores are over for me (famous last words!).

I did manage to score that Garmin thing I was referring to earlier with the Ebay/Microsoft 30 percent cashback offer and a 10 percent Paypal coupon. So, a $250 retail "Garmin 760" weighed in at $160 after all the discounts.

That 30 percent Ebay/Microsoft cashback deal is still going on, so check out one of the hot deals sites for details/instructions (like slickdeals.net and/or fatwallet.com. Microsoft is merely underwriting this. It has nothing to do with buying Microsoft products.

That's probably going to be it for tech stuff this year for me. Hope everyone had a good holiday.

This gal doesn't camp out or wait in long lines
Dec 1, 2008 7:08AM PST

I didn't wait in any of those awful lines. While everyone was waiting in those lines I leisurely got up, went out and had breakfast. As soon as the crowds at Best Buy and Staples thinned out (it didn't take long), I walked in, picked out my stuff (I already had it in my mind what I was getting), waited in a 5 minute line, paid, and left. Actually none of the stuff I got will wind up under the Christmas tree. They will probably be for birthday gifts throughout the next year. Everyone will be getting a black 4GB SanDisk Sansa Clip and a pair of Skullcandy earbuds.

And yeah, I did fail to mention that the majority of my holiday shopping was done online. I really didn't have too many people to buy for - just 6 people and half that was done by Halloween.

Then I hit the malls for a little "me" shopping - clothes, handbags, shoes, cosmetics - nothing really interested me. Well, I take that back. I drank the Ed Hardy kool-aid and bought one of those ridiculously expensive t-shirts. But at 65% off, of course.

Usually, I wouldn't be caught dead in a WalMart between Thanksgiving and the day after Christmas. But since some in my area are open 24 hours I might do a late night run. To come to think of it, that is my favorite part of holiday shopping - being able to say "I'm going shopping" at 9 o'clock at night. Happy
