General discussion

What did I change?

Jul 23, 2005 8:43AM PDT

I just tried to copy and paste text from a Word doc., and the result was a "Scrap" object which I can't open.
What did I change (if anything) and how do I undo this change? Win XP Home, Word 2000 SR 1.

Are you saying

that the scrap object is in your Word.doc?

If so, can you highlight the object, (click on it), then right click > Delete or just press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Or, exit the document without saving changes, then re-open the document.

Sorry....

I should have realized that I was trying to do something that doesn't work. I tried to paste Word text into a folder - and the result is a scrap.shs object. When I tried to open the object, I got a warning from MS Anti-spyware that I was attempting to run a Script. At first I thought I had a Virus or something, but I guess it's just a bonehead mistake on my part. Thanks for your response. Your questions made me realize what I was doing wrong.

Maybe not a mistake...

I have since been told that indeed - I should be able to drag/drop or copy/paste, all or apart of a Word document to a folder or desktop, without this scrap.shs appearing. I started to think that I had to first save or close the document, to drag/drop or copy/paste it elsewhere. It works when I do that. Maybe I really do have a problem. I did run AVG, and found nothing. Ran MS anti-Spy. and quarantined 1 item.
Still seeing scrap.shs.

I know what changed...

I recently updated my version of Word 2000 SR-1. Maybe that's why I'm now seeing this scrap object. From what I read on the MSKB, it sounds like it's normal.

As far as I know it is normal.

Have you been able to delete it?
