I'd pick the about 100 buck routers on the best sellers list at https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Computers-Accessories-Computer-Routers/zgbs/pc/300189 like the Archer C9 (has a dual core system, very stable, would buy again) then if I need it, configure as a WAP.
Re-using old gear is fun but for me I tired of the reboots and started shopping. Ended up with the Archer C9, would buy again.
I've got couple of old routers supplied by my ISP: Thomson 585 and Sagemcom 2704N. My house has a thick wall in the centre which blocks the wifi. So I've installed a network cable from one half to the other and used my Sagecom as the main router and my Thomson 585 router as a repeater/hub in the other half of the house. The Thomson is tired and often needs rebooting. Both the Thomson and Sagemcom 2704N have rubbish wifi speeds even when the mobile device is just 1 metre away. So I recon I need to replace both. What do you recommend? I could do with a few more wired ports on the router that will replace the Thomson one.
