What desktop to buy

Jun 29, 2006 7:44AM PDT

My desktop is causing me some difficulties so I think it's time to buy a new one and was wondering if I could get some free advice on what to get.
There's a few I have in mind but am unsure on which way to go--
One is the Sony VAIO

What desktop to buy

Hello!

I have read your message about what desktop pc you should buy!

I just bought a new pc my self! its a Dell computer.
Its running great.

The computer I think you should buy would be a
Dell Dimension 3100

Thats the new computer that I bought, I have had no problems with it at all and its very fast!
I have the link to the dell website for that computer

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/dimen_3100?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd

Dell are the best computer make you can get.

My Recent System
Jun 29, 2006 11:46PM PDT

I do exactly what your doing and I finally settled on this system from gateway.

I would love a PowerMac and if you have the patience to wait I would do so.

I want one for IDVD and all the excellent tools but I've actually been hereing OSX is not running so good yet under the Intel boards. XP runs faster on a MAC right now.

I'm waiting a few years for bugs to be worked out and will look at getting one. Unless they decide to make OSX installable on a PC. Then I'm gameHappy

I should have this system in a week so I can let you know how it does with photoshop etc.

IF YOU WANT OUT -OF-THE-BOX.......................

You can purchase a DELL E-510 with the D 940 and 2 gigs for a lot less than the HP and get a 19" Ultrasharp Monitor included in the deal. They have tons of bay space and have a 250 GB Hard Drive w/ Data Safe.
The graphics cards leave something to be desired. I have two neighbors with E 510s - both had graphix card failure - twice, but they upgraded their cards; and both say that other than that one problem, it's the best PC they've ever owned. Even if you do have to buy a better graphix card, you'll still come out spending less money than on the others, and have the same thing.
The E 310 isn't a bad system either. I'm writing you on one. This one has a 640 P4 and 2 gigs. I do a lot of photo editing with it - it has IG - which is working very well for that. Better than I expected.
DELL gets a good bashing from a lot of people........
We've had 4. I've always kept them clean and kept the towers out in the open. I've never had to take any of them into to the shop. (I did just knock on wood - for general purposes.)
I have found that most PC problems are caused by a short between the monitor and the chair.

How long have you owned your Dell E-510? Is that a machine sold through Dell's Home Office Division or their Small Business Division?

What's the PS rating on the PS which is installed in your Dell E-510; if you happen to know? Have you encountered any negative experiences with Dell's tech support since you purchased your Dell E-510?

I've been considering Dell's XPS 400 desktop which might be overkill for me. I need a desktop PC for basic home office needs. For doing email; internet; word processing and Quicken.

Let me run this by you. Do you think the parts used by Dell to build their XPS desktop models are better quality parts than those used to build Dell desktops such as your E-510? Advise whenever you can.
