....you don't mention what you budget is, or who you have as a carrier?
Also, since you begin by mentioning Apple products, are you ruling them out due to price? If not, I would suggest you look online for refurbished Apple iPhones via ATT (& other carriers). They are great deals usually, and have the same one year warranty as new phones. Most are corp returns/lightly used devices. Example of an entry level iPhone you would have no issues with since you know your iPod Touch well-
4S for $49

$100 more buys you an updated iPhone 5. Sometimes they drop this down to $99. Wait until the new model drops next month and you are guaranteed to see better/similar deals.
They also sell a refurb Galaxy S3 for $29 (etc.). It depends what you like. Android or iOS doesn't matter so much for me. I like both.
I bought an iPod touch (4th gen) way back when it the newest ipod touch. It has since been dropped, broken, replaced, been run over several times, dropped in water etc..
Overall, its time for me to get something new. I also need a cell phone, so I might as well kill two birds with one stone.
I don't need 1000's of bells and whistles, but some user-friendly abilities would be fantastic. I'm familiar with android phones (HTC one, mainly) and I like them muchly.
What device (IOS or Android) would you suggest?
PS: I would prefer something that is on the cheaper side, and won't have to be replaced in six months.
PPS: I use AT&T
