Question

What causes transmission fluid to burn up in less than 24 hr

Apr 18, 2017 2:27PM PDT

My son had his transmission flushed at a quicky oil change place because they told him it was "black, not red like it was supposed to be", the next day he drove about 60 miles and his check engine light came on and the car started smoking. The Ford dealer tells us that the transmission fluid is "burned up". The dealer said it "could be" due to something the quicky oil change place did wrong but the oil change place is denying any liability. It seems too coincidental. The dealer says the transmission has to be replaced and will cost $7,000. How should we proceed?

Mystery of trans fluid change for high mileage vehicle
Apr 23, 2017 10:59PM PDT

I always heard that when you have that kind of high millage you should never do a full tranny flush due to the small metal particles from the tranny that have wedged themselves into the gears. Once you change that fluid it changes the viscosity and takes all those metal flakes that held the tranny together out. One case on a Grand Cherokee with over 100k. After the transmission rebuilt, it had even bad fuel consumption and mileage. We tried the Fass Fuel pump system and it somehow helped.

sounds like quicky tranny place adjusted the bands

....and got them too tight because they didn't know what they were doing. The bands have material on them similar to brake shoes and disc pads and if adjusted to tight rub and will burn the oil up, and the tranny will shift rough, or not at all.

There could be many reasons for the transmission fluid burn up.
I know I was reading though a forum at fixamotor
The fluid could possibly be leaking, Or perhaps has gone bad.
Check out the forum maybe you will find your answer, It is kind of new but there has still been some activity lately.
