What can I do to speed up my startup?

Jun 27, 2007 12:56AM PDT

Hey,
How do i increase the startup speed when loading Vista Home Basic? I've already stop some program from running at startup but i still find it slow during startup. The speed isn't really consistent. Sometimes it takes only about 3sec to get into window from the welcome screen but sometimes it takes about 15 to 20sec. My machines running on Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66Mhz and 1.5Gb RAM so i don't think it's because of the hardware. My machine is free from adware and spyware and all those junk because I scan it at the end of the day. I also defrag my hard drive once every month and so scan disk every week. Since it's Home Basic i don't have Aero installed and i'm only using the Window sidebar with 3 gadgets but I don't wanna disable that so is there any other way to speed up my startup and also the time for my machine to shut down?
Thanks,

Adrian

15 to 20 Seconds Is Quite Good...

The inconsistancy can happen for a lot of reasons including your antivirus startup, firewall startup, etc.. If you'd like to trim down some of the unnecessary startup services, etc., see the link below and follow their procedures.

Hope this helps.

See the forum sticky...

The time will vary, depending on recent software updates and the cache/prefetch/superfetch contents, but I'd have a look over the forum sticky with special attention to #3, which covers the disabling of services.

I've tried it..

Hey,
I've tried tweaking the services and now i can feel that my machine is abit more smoother then before. I've always known that disabling some of the services would help but I wouldn't dare do it because i'm not very sure about what can i disable and what can't. Thanks for the info guys..=)
