What can I do to fix Dell 2400

Jul 8, 2009 2:05AM PDT

I have a dell 2400 desktop, I used to be able to load and run Windows Vista, My kids use this unit because the like to go on places like. Mybook, Myspace. I was having to redo the whole system about every 4-5 months. I would just put my Windows Vista in the drive and let it go, It would load with know problem. Now all of the sudden it will not read or boot the windows disk any longer. I have tried the same disk in other computers and it works just fine. I can?t even get it to read the disk even after it?s all booted up and running. But it will read a Windows XP Pro disk with out any problems, I will ever boot fine from a the XP disk that?s on a DVD disk, Any Help???

What We Do First...

1. Replace the DVD/CD drive.. When a drive starts to die, it frequently starts to lose the ability to read certain discs, even though other discs read fine.

2. If the disc is actually damaged, contact Dell to get a new disc.

Hope this helps.

Use XP Pro

Quite frankly, as its a desktop, I would say that you would be better off using the XP install disk.
XP is a better system for most people, because, although it isn't as pretty (fixable with Windows' Royale Scheme) as Vista, it's far more reliable and much better. Many people and businesses downgrade their PCs from Vista to XP anyway.
Basically, use the XP disk because a) it works, and b) it's probably better for you anyway.
