The Canon 40D was followed up by the 50D, and now the current 60D. The 60D is a bit different though; it has a polycarbonate body (the 40D's body is magnesium), an articulated LCD, and offers video, which the 40D did not have. However, with the standard 18-135mm kit lens, it is more than your budget.
Currently there is a special on the Canon T3i which may be of interest to you:

Here is a review of the T3i:

I have seen the work of a photographer I know who has a Canon EOS 40D & I think I may want a camera like that.
I know I definitely want a Canon. I would prefer if the total price for everything I need - to include the camera, batteries, tripod, lenses, etc. - to be under $1000 though.
I've been using a Fujifilm S1500, which is a great little "starter" camera. I have to use photoshop to really edit my photo's though, which I don't want to have to do. This is why I want a better camera. I would also like to start doing professional photography.
I don't really know anything about professional quality cameras and all the equipment I will need. I know I would like as much as I can get without spending a fortune.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
