I'm tired of renting a modem and need to buy one that will last and provide reasonable performance with a long life.

Talk to your isp about changing the modem from rental to owned.

Then you have a modem they support.

I did that with mine years ago.

Took about 6 months to recover the purchase price.

Depends on provider

I used to live where Comcast was the provider. They charged a rental fee. I bought a modem a couple years ago that is still running well with the latest updates. Paid $90 at Target. Since then I moved to a area that is now Spectrum. I am not sure, but I was told Spectrum does not charge for a modem. I would call your tech support Maybe it depends on how many services you have with them. None the less, my modem has paid for itself several times over.
