HP Color Laserjet 3700
Apr 4, 2006 12:15PM PDT

I had the 3700 for a year and a half. I've printed a variety of jobs: small (100 or less) to medium (500-1000) runs of flyers, pamphlets, .pdf files, web pages, etc. for non-profits and my classes

I'm satisfied with the print results. I have found that off brand OEM cartridges are not a good value. Some leak toner at the ends streaking the edges of the paper if you run more than 3-5 copies of any document. Color matching is also acceptable for the printing I do--all noncritical, so color shifts are generally not a problem.

The manual duplexing can be problematic if the paper weight isn't particularly high. And is often a bit dicey even with a good quality paper.

HP toner cartridges have a reasonable life and a offer a fair value: 10 to 25 cents a page for what I've printed, which have high coverage percentages.

Speed is close to what was advertised (16 ppm b/w & color). It comes close if picking up paper from the bottom tray. Speeds drop dramatically if using the fold down feeder tray.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the printer.

What brand of printer do you own
Apr 4, 2006 12:17PM PDT

I own a HP Photosmart 8150 Printer. I am very pleased with it. I use HP Ink and print many Photos, with good (true) color for most of the prints. I use Kodak Ultimate Photo Paper and have XP-Home Edition operating system.

Absolutely the best printer I have ever had and the cartridges have a decent price too. I also like the fact that they are fairly easy to refill.

HP LaserJet 1000 series
Apr 4, 2006 12:23PM PDT

Have been using this printer for about 2-3 years and
have great luck with it. Had a Lexmark inkjet and was
disgusted with the quality of construction and the
exorbitant costs of replacement cartridges. Also found
a location in New Jersey for replacement laser car-
tridges that averaged out a little over $30.00 each and
have not had a problem whatsoever. I did learn early
on that one needs to ''fan'' printer paper all around
before putting into feed tray, as this eliminates
paper jams. As I learned several years ago, HP makes
very good printers and I can attest to it.

HP 7410
Apr 4, 2006 12:23PM PDT

I have the HP 7410 All in one. I LOVE IT. It has been amazing and very easy to set up and use. I am technically challenged, so I was worried but it has been great. I still have not used all the bells and whistles though. That stuff is kind of scary.

Cannon 8170c
Apr 4, 2006 12:24PM PDT

Scan light stays on (customer-no-help says it should for the fax [guess someone still uses them])
but this costs 30 watts 24/7 instead of the advertised 5 standyby watts.

Solution: added on/off switch (which cannon could not afford on this $800 machine).

Unfortunately, it takes quite a while for the machine to gansh it's teeth, whirr, spindle, ratchet, cam, cog, clunk, warble, and eventually get ready to be useful.

The buttons are not intuitive, but it does a good job of scanning, printing, and such.

What one gets for being on the bleeding edge of the "all in one" lazer printer, scanner, etc.

what brand printer do I own
Apr 4, 2006 12:25PM PDT

I have a Canon i9900 printer. I am quite happy with it. It is quite fast. I have been printing the maximum size,13 X 19 and it takes aboutone full minute. The colors are excellent. My biggest problem had been a difference in color hue from that which was on my monitor and the actual print coming from the printer. This has been fully resolved by using Colorvision-Pantone Spyder 2.
As for printing papers I have been using Canon, Epson,Kodak and at times Staple's better generic brand. All seem to work well if one heeds to the recomendation of the paper manufacturer when using their paper in a given printer.
As far as fading is concerned, I do not have long time observations to make any judgement. One has to remember that when comparing "fade rates" there are many other variables besides paper; Such as exposure to sunlight, artificial light, type of glasscovering the photo, etc.

Minolta PagePro 1250W
Apr 4, 2006 12:29PM PDT

I have an HP 932C Deskjet and it is fine.

After getting my Minolta LaserJet my Deskjet ink drys for lack of use. I had a Minolta copier for years flawless. My PagePro is about 2 years old and performs perfectly! I simply would never be without a laser printer no matter what the brand.

After figuring out how to use it, this is a great printer, h for text, photos and graphics. The accompanying software, as usual, leaves a lot to be desired. I ahd an Epsom rx620x which bave nothing but trouble but the software wass very good. So there you are.

Epson 860!!
Apr 4, 2006 12:35PM PDT

My Epson 860 is at least a few years old and it has printed hundreds of (maybe over a thousand) documents without a single problem and it still works great. Ink is dirt cheap at about $2.49 per cartridge at ebay. It's inexpensive and easy to use and it has been completely trouble-free. What more could I ask out of a (non-photo) printer? I'll continue using it until it dies.

Epson R320
Apr 4, 2006 12:39PM PDT

I have had HP printers in the past, and had won a few local prizes with my photos, but when I got a deal on an Epson R300, it was like spring after a long cold winter. The 300 got me more and better county fair prizes. Last fall it failed, the dreaded "general error" (means dead printer.) So I got me an Epson R-320, and it's even better. Colors brighter, more consistent results. Great stuff

Hp 1120c
Apr 4, 2006 12:39PM PDT

Wide format (supe B: over 11 x 17)

XP doesn't support it, so download Hp 1220 drivers.

If you live where the wunidity is less than 95%, don't put ink cartrages in it unless you're going to do a lot of printing as the "holes" dry right up.

HP 7550 -Happy? Yes and No
Apr 4, 2006 12:42PM PDT

I have an HP Photosmart 7550. The quality is very good, but two things bug me. The inks are not water-resistant (like the Epson Durabrites). And the printer insists on producing a margin, no matter what I do to over-ride the settings. This is infuriating when you are trying to produce something that fills a page (for example on pdf print runs). Kind of silly, when the printer is perfectly capable of producing 'borderless' 4x6 prints.

General remarks
Apr 4, 2006 12:43PM PDT

I ever use Epson dot matrix, follow by HP Inkjet series and lastly (but not least) the Canon Bubblejet.

Epson has a good performance in PC-Printer Protocal.
HP good in the output quality.
Canon good in its features.

HP PSC2210, HP Photosmart 945
Apr 4, 2006 12:51PM PDT

I'd never own a HP product again. Had problems with both and all HP wanted to do was sell me new products. Fact is they refused to repair or even provide parts to have them repaired. When your talking over $1,000 in equipment and less than a year old, thats expensive paper weights. Their great as long as they work, but there service after sales is the pits plus.

Brand of printer
Apr 4, 2006 12:55PM PDT

I was using for the past while an Epson CX5400, and was very happy with it although it is bulky. I recently purchased a new Computer package and it came with a Canon Pixma MP 150. I like the size and it is very fast printing and very good quality and easy to use. I think the Canon will be my preferred printer.

Brother
Apr 4, 2006 12:57PM PDT

I have Brother laser 1240 & 1440, both cheap an excellent. Same with Epson C84 & Cx 64. Also have a Brother MFC 8600 series & it is the WORST printer ever. Ink cartidges don't work (even tho they are still full of ink) unless you use the unit constantly.
Let it set a week & they are useless. Brother has no fix for this.
