What bitrate should i convert all my music to?

Hi, i've got over 4k tracks all in itunes and they range from the lowest to the highest bitrates. i would like to bring it all together (and fit on my ipod)but i dont know which rate i should change it to and with what software. i appreciate your input and any extra tips! Thanks

Why convert it?

With each conversion you lose more fidelity. I just leave mine as-is for longest life and fidelity.
