I have a number of old (20 yrs) VHS tapes of my children which I have been slowly uploading to my PC, editing, burning to DVDs (with titles and chapters) and then giving to my children as gifts.
I use Pinnacle Studio Movie Box to capture the video from VHS (analog and SVHS) to my PC (USB 2.0 cable). It works great and then I use Pinnacle Studio software to edit and burn the digital footage.
The cost for the Pinnacle Movie Box and software might run you a couple of hundred dollars (or less) but is well worth it as you can use the pinnacle software to edit other stuff if you want.
Hope this helps.
I got a bunch of tapes of the kids from the '80's to the present. I checked the oldest ones and they are still viewable.
I'd like to save them for posterity. I've seen electronic devices for transfering tape to CD. I'm aware of commercial services that do this. My questions:
Who are the cheaper(but reliable) service providers ?
What types of VHS to CD machines are out there, that are reasonably priced ($400 or less) ?
What type of media (CD, DVD, other) should I use to ensure that the tape content lasts ?
Thanks,
Bigkell
