What are the advantages of a wide screen display?

The only situations when you take advantage of a wide screen display are when you watch movies or when work in Excel.

And I don't see many peoples watching movies in front of a laptop or working every day with Excel. For the other applications (word, reading documents, programming etc) is more difficult to work on a wide screen.

And another question: Why aren?t 17? laptops with 4/3 aspect????

17" in "square" aspect. Only motivation for manufacturers doing wide of any size is cost. Glass is mfd for wide TVs, and computers are secondary.
