Question

What are Samsung 4k TV screens made of?

Mar 28, 2018 6:50PM PDT

I've been searching the net to figure this out but can't find any info. Hopefully someone here can give me the answer or point me to the right direction to find the answer. The reason I'm trying to figure this out:

My company attends trade shows every year and we ship out several Samsung TVs for the show. During a recent show, UPS damaged our crate and cracked several of the TVs that were in the crate. We purchase insurance for the value of the items in the crate, but we just found out that UPS is trying to use a loophole in their contract by saying they will only reimburse $50 because their insurance does not cover "glass". So after looking at the TVs that were damaged, it doesn't seem to me that the screens are glass. If that is the case, we will need to provide proof (specs) of what the screens are made of.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Need clarification

Thanks for the info. I’ve read up on several articles that provides the info in the link you shared. Typically they say that the screen is made of a “glass substrate or plastic substrate”. I guess what I need to know, specifically, is is there any info out there that can definitely say whether certain models, or for new Samsung 4K TVs, whether the screens are plastic or glass. Seeing how the screen feels and how light the TVs are, I can’t believe they are true glass. The links I found on the web only provides general info. Thanks in advance.

If you see a broken screen

It's glass. I have yet to see an all plastic LCD for many reasons. I'm an electronics designer and dealt with chip design and more.

I'm not happy to read your top post and it gives the carrier an out.

Are you telling me that Samsung won't answer on that line? Shame on them.

Try this. All gear should have a MSDS or Material Safety Data Sheet. Ask Samsung for this on their TVs.
