What are pft Temp files?

by mej / August 11, 2005 6:48 AM PDT

I clean out my temporary files quite often from Start/Explore. I find that I have pft0000~TMP files that keep accumulating. Some only have setup.inf files in them. (The pft is followed by a number) There are also temp files under file folder user (under temp)....

What are these files, do I need them?

I have Windows 98SE, 128Ram,13GB with 8.5 left. McAfee/AdAware,Spybot/SBCYahoo DSL. I just installed Easy Clean Ver.7 and noticed these pft files in unneccessary files as well as under Explore.

Thanks.

Mej, I Think You're Talking About 'pftxxx~TMP' FOLDERS..
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / August 11, 2005 7:10 AM PDT

...NOT files..They are generally created in the "Temp" folder of Windows. When you see those particular folders, they are the result of a driver update or program installation...During the installation, the "pft" temporary folder is created to help with file extraction from the executable program installer. Once the program is installed, you can safely delete the folder as it's no longer needed.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
