What about the Dell Axim X51 416Mhz?

Jan 14, 2006 5:04AM PST

I see almost everybody say that Dell Axim X51v is a good option. But right now in my country there is a very good offer for the Axim X51 416Mhz and I?m thinking to take it.
I want to be able to run on this ppc most of the softwares in the market, recording lectures, reading and if possible some entertaining with it: movies, music, games...

Can anyone help me about the pros & cons of this model?

Thanks
Regards.

The X51 low...
Jan 14, 2006 6:08AM PST

The Axim line is almost always the cheapest compared to models from other manufacturers with similar specs, and overall are very reliable. The X51 low lacks WiFi, but the 416MHz processor is more than adequate (312MHz is the requirement for most higher-end apps), 128MB of ROM is pretty good, and it runs the latest version of Windows Mobile (which includes poecket versions of Word, Excel, and Powerpoint). At $254 (on sale here in the US) you won't find a better deal in the same range.

However, like I told another member yesterday, the microphone is not condusive to recording leactures, as it's intended for short voice memos. For recording lectures, you can try it, but your best bet is to purchase a voice recorder. (You can pick up a pretty good digital one for ~$60.) Aside from that, cons do not have a major presence, though the lack of WiFi is something you may want to consider if you wish to connect to the internet wirelessly.

Hope this helps,
John

P.S. If you have any other questions or need software recommendations, just hollar.

Thank you very much. It helps a lot.
About the lack of WIFI I think it won?t affect me too much despite of course it is always a good choice to have it. Anyway I can always purchase a WIFI card and I?ve got it!, isn?t it?.

Thanks
