WH Easter egg hunt - got started?

Wow, found out by a local newspaper weekly how it all got started. It seems Congress during the term of Pres. Hayes in 1878 banned kids from the Congress lawn for such hunts. Pres. Hayes made it known that kids could use the WH lawn for this activity, thus a tradition got started.

This is news to me but the Pres. Haynes home here in Ohio is just down the road from me. Of course that tradition is being relived at his home here at the Spiegel Grove Estate. For further info visit the:
