wet key

Jul 30, 2008 9:37PM PDT

It is impossible for me to open my locked driver's-side door in the rain without getting my key wet. My question is this: If I put my wet key in my ignition in order to start the car, will it cause a short or do any damage to my car? Thank you for your response. user429

Why can't you just wipe the water off with your shirt or something?

Nothing to worry about

It shouldn't be a problem as the key assy. is pretty much a mechanical one for the most part. The electrical contacts may become a problem but as the other poster offered, just wipe the key down. You can spray a lube into the key hole to lessen any corrosion(or wetness) but I haven't come across such a problem, unless you're by the sea, etc.. -----Willy Happy
