Westinghouse 22 inch monitor / RCA 52inch

I just bought a Westinghouse 22inch monitor. It has the Stereo audio/video cable holes on the side. I bought some audio/video(yellow) (red) (white) cables and hooked the monitor up to the TV and im getting nothing. I read that I can use the S video hookup, is that the only way? I figured this would work, if not then whats the point of having these hookups on the side?
