Seems like it's broken. That bing bong doesn't sound good.

I'd accept their offer to replace it. Indeed you lost what you put on it if you don't have another copy. That's one of the basics: always have at least one backup copy (two is better). An another basic: external disks are unreliable, so don't use them as primary storage. But they are nice for using for one of your two backup copies.

can't get it replaced now cracked open the casing.

<div>had to format laptop so dumped all info on hd went to reload it all and it wont recognise it, wasn't using it as primary storage as such but i thought it would last at least one day. the info was on there for as long as it takes to format and re-install programs.

Next up are services like http://www.drivesavers.com

Can I ask if this is your first or second or which number hard disk and data loss you've suffered?

hi have been using external hd's for years have six smaller ones but just wanted to reorganize my computer never had a problem before but just wanted to get rid of crap i honestly thought it would be ok being new and only used once before. (so didn't back up twice it was honestly moving it to the hard drive and then back again)
thanks for the web page got a quote not happy with it but the price you have to pay to get photos back (nearly $1500)
was just hoping i was doing something wrong and had to tick a box some where. was hoping it would be that simple.
is there a program where you can do it yourself? or are they too risky?

All the usual advice is at the top of this forum.

But your failure sounded severe and the need great to get the files back so I didn't mention the top post in this forum.

Since you have six smaller units one can hope you were copying rather than moving files.
