General discussion

Well . . .

Apr 14, 2011 11:09AM PDT
we got it but didn't ask for it. The pages are more cluttered, but we got it anyway. There are options that aren't needed but we got them anyway.

Like my home page with Yahoo!. They're always changing things for the better, and removing things I liked, and adding things that aren't needed. And none that I asked for.

For the discussion, and to Lee, where are the requests for changes that must have been placed by millions of users? I'm sure all these changes must have been clamored for by all the users, otherwise the forums would have been left simple, user friendly, and in general, just fine the way they were.

What did I miss?

If any of the page designers would like to contact me, I'm sure I could come up with more icons, links, Twitter, Facebook, "Share" crap, that could be added to the sidebar at the left or at the top.

In general, the changes serve no purpose other than give page designers something to do to justify their salary.

Respectfully submitted, by one who has been here the longest, and has seen many changes, and this one is just plain fluff.

Well I'm back to using manual BBcode to change text appearance such as italics, bold, etc.

I would suspect all those links to other services are money makers, like advertisements. Although I, and probably you, don't use Facebook, seems there's a huge number who do.

PS- unchecking the "Track This Thread" since I'm not too old to remember and check back on it later.

I partially agree...

There are some features I am pleased to see finally added, such as the WYSIWYG editor (for less frequent/advanced users), the ability to filter threads by type, et cetera. However, as you noted, a significant part of the updates were centered around both bringing the design inline with what is being rolled out to the rest of the site as well as social networking aspects that are lauded by many, but not appreciated by all.

I am returning to my usual customizing ways, so I may be sharing something soon...

If the intent was to create the web forum with the most 'Glitz'.......success.

Reminds me of the radio in my car which has 12 buttons on it.
Only 2 are needed to make the thing function.
10 buttons are 'Glitz'.

Glitz? I run Firefox. I can hardly wait!

OH!! I just noticed the "Track this thread" is now unchecked "by default!". Yeeeeaaaahhhhhh! One more thing I don't have to click.

Yes, I'm being tacky.
