Welcome Promp

Hi I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem...when I start up my computer and my welcome promp comes up it takes exactly 20 seconds for my desktop to show up...if anyone has an answer to my problem please post it.

20 seconds....that could be normal. It's the time that your XP loads all needed driver, requested services,etc...

View events to see what problems counted when start up. Having any failure when loading drives/ services will cause OS to hang/ delay in booting.
Control panel > Administrative tools > Event viewer

By the way, turn off unneccessary services/ startup programs will help to speed up booting. Do a google search will show you a lot of thing.
Start > Run > Msconfig > Startup ( / Services)

Well my Dad's computer only takes about 5 seconds and its a big difference. Hes got 80 gig and i got 60 gig.

Your father's computer and yours could be very different in many ways, including what programs/games/music/videos, etc you have installed or stored on yours and where, compared to his.

There are some diagnostic/tuning programs you could try such as Tune XP, type it into google.
