Question

Weird - When Closing Programs - Stays on Screen

Jul 24, 2012 9:17PM PDT

WindowsXP - - my work requires that I have multiple programs open simultaneously...but, sometimes when I open programs, then minimize and/or close...the image of the program still appears on the screen, as if it is still open (or maximized)...like a ghost image.

This then requires that I reboot (if I would like to see the programs close/minimize in a normal manner and to be able to see my desktop)...then after I reboot...all of my shortcuts on my desktop reorganize themselves (which is annoying, because I organize and group them together based on the projects that I am working on).

My IT department is at a loss...was wondering if anyone had any insite into why my computer is acting so weird.

Thanks!!!

Did the IT dept reload the OS and drivers?

If it fails again after that, then the hardware is suspect.

Answer
Task Manager might Help

Hi kjnmiss

My name is Vishal and i work for the Social Media and Community team at Dell. Can you tell me a bit more about the system specs as to how much RAM do you have on the system if at all you have a cleanup software on your system. It appears that virtual memory could be low as well. First thing that i can suggest you is that while closing a particular program you can open up the task manager by simply doing a right click on the task bar at the bottom. Under the applications tab you will see a list of applications that are running at that time, you can simply do a right click on the application you want to terminate and click on the option that says "GO TO PROCESS", then click on the tab that says "END PROCESS". This is one easy way to close an application without having to reboot the system. As far your icons getting rearranged is concerned , my suggestion is that you can create folders and save the shortcuts accordingly.

Thanks
