weird system crash(vibrant colors and flickering?!??!)

Apr 12, 2007 11:39AM PDT

Ive never experienced this kind of... computer freeze.

I just bought a new Dell with Vista on it, and randomly it will freeze up on me..but not like what im used to.

the sceen will all of a sudden flash/flicker vibrant colors, the speakers will screech, and I cant do ANYTHING. I can faintly see the background of whatever I was doing, but the mouse cursor wont respond, crt alt del wont do anything, I end up having to hold the power button.

what is going on? anyone else experiencing this? i called dell and the had me download a bios update, and it still didnt fix it. i was just wondering..before I call them again and have to deal with a foreign guy who cant speak english very well...if maybe anyone knows whats going on/how to fix it.

thank you very much for any insight Happy

Flicker Flash

This problem seems like some sort of video issue and you need to address it with Dell while you have the right to get their support for it.

I wouldn't think a BOIS update would solve this, it would more likely would be some sort of short to make the speakers screech and it is taking the video down in the process.

Hope this helps,

Have you added any software, new hardware or, reconnect old periferals to your new system ??? Do you know if your video rom is shadowed ?? It sounds as if it could be a conflict on interrupt or Dynamic Memory access

I can relate to the go round

Unfortunatly you probably will have to keep after Dell until they figure out what the problem is and then actually fix it. I have had this same go around and eventually I have gotten things fixed but it usually takes over a month and many hours of my time, I document all conversations and goings on so I have repeat information to give them and just keep after them in general. It may also be a matter of getting someone on the phone that will actually do something about it also. In short if you have not done anything to this computer and it had this problem out of the box this is something Dell needs to make right with you, you shouldn't have to find out what the problem is and waste hours doing that.

I recently had a monitor issue with Gateway and they readily agreed to send me a replacement monitor but they sent me a refurb with blurry text, I sent that back and they forgot to order another one, then they sent me one that didn't even power up, then they finally sent me a brand new one, which was only fair because the other two were so scratched up it would be unfair to replace my two week old monitor with them. All this took over a month of emailing back and forth etc. The only up side is that they did pay for all the shipping so I didn't loose anything but my time. One other time I had a problem with a Compaq bundle and ended up sending it all back to Compaq for a buy back because I needed a computer then and couldn't wait for maybe it's this or that routine and since it was a design online machine BestBuy refused to take it back and didn't have anything they could exchange it with.

Hope this helps,

Gotenex:
You are not going crazy, I am having the same problem. I bought a box that is having the same problem. Tried 2 different monitors and experience the same problem. Did you have any luck getting an answer?
