Weird program that starts up in msconfig

by ITS ME!!! / September 15, 2006 10:40 AM PDT

Under my msconfig, tab startup, i have this goofy program that "seems" to be important, but no idea on how to identify it. The program is, hmm well I cant even do it here, its some weird computer lingo, so I'll just say it:

Box box box, squigly line, box, omega sign, 5 mroe boxes, a Y with dots on top, well you get the idea now

I disables this and restarted and my computer freaked out, seemed to be a bit faster starting up, but the computer didnt like that move I made. I want to know if anyone knows what this is, is it a virus that has become part of the computer that needs to run or else the computer scews up, or is it something that is BS and I can turn off. Oh wait, I cant turn it off, duh, computer freaks out!!!

Computer Freaks Out

It would really help if you actually told us what the computer does, rather than using a subjective term such as "freaks out"

for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem.

Also, perhaps a screen shot of Startup type, or at least the Command or Location as listed in the Startup tab would be very helpful.

RE Weird Program in MSCONFIG
by Daviddude / September 15, 2006 1:33 PM PDT

I had two of those awhile back, and just unchecked them so they didn't run. I didn't notice any changes either. I also ran all of my anti virus/adaware/cccleaner type programs in both reg mode and safe mode and they returned nothing out of the ordinary and no virus were found.
But the two programs on my computer were just this:
an apostrophe then five boxes (I don't know how to make boxes on this.)

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
