Weird Control Bar Image Showing Up

Dec 30, 2005 4:25AM PST

Mark5019 suggested I post this here.

I have a Mac running OSX 10.4.3 and using Safari as a browser and have noticed for about the last couple of days a blue control bar with a <> arrow on the right hand side of it shows up when I am scrolling the CNET forum page. The blue control bar always appears dead center on my screen.
The bar is strictly visual. Cannot click on it.
WEIRD to say the least!
Any ideas what is causing this. Is it my Mac or CNET?
Dec. 28, the CNET email-link for contacting members was out all day.
Are there other problems with CNET and this imaging problem?
I have a screen shot of this weirdness. Who wants to see the image? Am I the only one to view something different here?
I originally posted this on the Forum Feedback and have asked Rick to post back to the message with a link so others may view what is going on. This thing does not happen all the time but appears frequently the last three days since CNET email link went down.

My bet is Cnet spewed some odd html code.

Of course they continue to flunk the HTML code checker (pick any!)

Is this a continuing problem or "it happens from time to time?"

Bob

PS. I think this post belongs in a Mac forum since Safari is very much Mac only.

I have never used a Mac OR Safari

so I'm not even going to make a guess and I agree with Bob that this should be in the Mac forum. From the sparse amount of responses here I don't think any of the other regulars in here know anything about them either or they would have responded by now.

Safari

is the Mac browser using OSX 10. Tiger.
I happen to like Firefox much better. The problem is with CNET. Not anything more. CNET tech group has a problem sending out the code from their platform. The problem has been here before. I just viewed it recently and it is showing up on a daily basis. What a pain in the butt!
OK, when is CNET going to fix it?

Bob Proffitt is our one of our Moderators. I happen to call Bob: My SUPER Moderator. Robert knows Mac and PC and is a programmer out of MA.
Mark, send Bob an email and introduce yourself to him. He will not bite you. :

HTML Code
Jan 2, 2006 7:21AM PST

Bob, this only happened recenty since the CNET email went down. This is not just a Mac and Safari problem I think.
Why can't CNET fix it?
Does CNET technitions know about this?
On a PC platform, do you ever view this weird control bar on the CNET forums?
We do on the Mac side. And interesting. Wonder why? And only on the CNET Forum page.

Kevin, I think maybe your best

bet would be to click on Lee Koo's profile and click on his "e-mail member" thing and have him forward the information of what is happening to you to whoever at CNET would be in control of this kind of thing. I would think it would be the engineers.

Roddy?

Exactly! You are right on.
Do me a favor, since you know more than I do about this matter, and how to reach Lee, can you contact Lee for me?
Please tell Lee there is a problem on the CNET with his technitions and how the code is sent out.

Roddy, thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

OK Kevin, I will e-mail Lee and

point him to this thread. Please be patient though, he is busy and sometimes takes a few days to answer an e-mail. I will do what I can but HE is the only one that can help you with this if it is a CNET problem. The Mods are just members like you, me, and everybody else. Happy

Roddy, thanks. That was like instant messaging.
What a mod you are. Holy mackeral! Just amazing.

I was lucky to meet Lee at Braintree this summer and talk to him and Steve Smith.
Missed Bob Proffitt by one day. Darn it!!!

Kevin we haven't done any changes to the forums
Jan 3, 2006 2:38AM PST

for the last 3 weeks. The email feature was down and probably fixed with a reboot of the servers, but no changes or additions to the forum software were made. So I really have no clue as to why that bar is showing up in your particular browser.

Have you talked to any other Mac users who are using Safari to see if they are also experiencing this?

Do you have access to another Mac where you can test to see if this is also happening in the forums?

If other Mac users were experiencing this, I probably would've heard about this by now, but no one notified me of this issue. Has Peter aka mrmacfixit experienced this too?

If no one else is experiencing this, this maybe a single case incident that maybe happening on your particular Mac. Anyways email me and let me know what your findings are?

Thanks!

I will see what happens later when I use Firefox..
If it happens again I will email you.
Thanks Lee,
