Hi gtc,
This is a common problem with web site design nowadays. Users have different sized monitors or LCD's, and use different resolutions for their desktop display, (mine is 1280 x 1024 on an 18" LCD).
You will aslo find that different users use different types of browser, eg I use Netscape 7.1 and Firefox 1.01, and they render web pages differently to Internet Explorer.
All of this is designed to confuse web page creators, and make their life difficult, ![]()
There's no easy answer to your problem, but you can try a few things.
1] Use a plain background image, eg a plain colored image. The CNET forum here is a good example, it uses a mustard color background image. The main body of the pages may be centered or may be directed to the left, but the background fills the remaining space.
2] If you use tables, (and some web site designers don't like tables, but I do), make the width of the table a %age, for example, 75%, and center it. This gives a background border each side. Then the columns of the table will be at a %age width of your choice, (adding up to 100% of the width of the table).
3] General design of your web page. Accept that some users will have higher resolutions and may see empty parts of the web page. If they don't like it, they can always re-size their browser so it fits the web page.
Good luck,
Mark
Hi,
I purchased a template from an online vendor and I build my website. THIS IS MY FIRST SITE BUILDING EXPERIENCE. PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND THAT I AM A NOVICE.
Later I discovered that it was displaying very differently on other computers. Due to my computer settings, it looked fine but when viewed on others, i realize that the right quarter-side of the side is not filling out to the edges of the page. Give or take 3-4 inches. In 1024 by 768 pixels is when you notice this. In the lower setting, such as on my computer it views just perfect.
I am using frontpage with this template. I don't think this is a frontpage template. I THINK THE TEMPLATE IS A PHOTOSHOP DESIGN. The file folders are internal4 and index4, PSD folder encluded.
Just looking for good advice on hoh to fix this problem or shold I start all over again with a different Template???
Thanks for any assistence you can give.
