Website not updating

Aug 26, 2004 10:16AM PDT

Hello. I am using IE 6.0 and using windows XP home version and using a cable modem ( no router). Last Friday I changed servers for my website. 6 days later when trying to view my site it goes to the old server not the new server..I ran a tracer and it showed the trace to my website goes to my old server not my new one. I tried viewing my site on another computer and it comes up to the new server like it is supposed too. I have cleared my temp files , cleared the history and flushed my DNS CACHE and nothing has worked.. I recently updated my firewall and virus protection to Norton Internet Security 2004. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve my problem. Could a setting in my firewall be causing the problem??.. any help would be appreciated, this has me stumped

Mike

I love it when I read that you flushed the DNS CACHE. You did well.

But did you check your HOSTS file?

Can you use NSLOOKUP and see what the DNS resolves to?

Hi Bob..
Thanks for your reply.. I just did the NSLOOKUP AND the DNS resolves to the correct nameserver which is lunarpages .

The problem is though even though NSLOOKUP shows it to the correct server I am still getting the old server. The trace route still points to the old server for some reason??

The HOSTS entry would be used first. But I thought I asked about that.

All I can do is keep asking.

Can you share what's in the HOSTS file?

Can you share the result of PING thatwebsite.com?

Just repeating, if there's a HOSTS entry, its used first.

You've found the issue.

The DNS you are using has the old address. You have to give such things a few days to change after you move.

Look at IPCONFIG /ALL and note which DNS entries there are. Use NSLOOKUP on both and see which is wrong.

I can't comment since you have the IP addresses of the DNS that is handing out the wrong address. But you can inspect the DNS with NSLOOKUP (another feature of NSLOOKUP is to select the DNS) and then you find the owner of that DNS and ask them to update the records.

I'm wondering if your old server put a script on your p.c. to automatically redirect your browser to their site. Try e-mailing them to find out if this is the case.
