Resolved Question

Website in iDisk --->iCloud?

Nov 30, 2011 3:02AM PST

I'm using OS X.10.6.8, and before switching to Lion and then to iCloud, I'd like to know what will happen to my web site which is available (i.e hosted) through my iDisk?

MobileMe and iWeb websites cease on 30 June 2012

Your website will still be available until 30 June 2012 even if you upgrade to Lion. You do not have to transition to iCloud until then even if you upgrade to Lion but you can - there is a new iCloud System Preference.

Move files from iDisk to web server

@klaatu3:

You need to login to MobileMe and select the iDisk icon.
Copy the files you need to keep from iDisk to your home Mac.
When you have arranged a new web host you need to upload the webpage to their server using an ftp client. (I have not used ftp for many years but Transmit or Cyberduck are ftp client apps).
You will need a user ID and password to loin to your new host. They should also tell you if you have to keep the files in a single folder, etc.

Good advice, but

theoretically, your website should already be on your home Mac. It should be available
from the iWeb application and be wherever you told iWeb to save the site folder before you
uploaded it to iDisk.

mrmacfixit: Thanks, but I never edit the contents of my iDisk directly; I always edit my site on my Mac, and THEN transfer it to my iDisk. So there's a copy of my site and all attending files on my Mac.

Things are getting more confused

I asked my original question to a mac maven friend, who suggested the following: <span id="INSERTION_MARKER"> "Once you switch to iCloud, you simply drag your folder (containing all your site files) from your Mac to iCloud (or ftp it there).
<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">

<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">Once your files are on iCloud it will be very similar to using your iDisk."

I don't think your Mac Maven is correct.

see this from Apple; http://www.apple.com/mobileme/transition.html

You will note that iWeb publishing is not supported which, in turn, means that you cannot have your website, however it was created, hosted in iCloud.

Following the link in the article, you will see that Apple have gone to great detail to explain how to move your existing MobileMe hosted site to another hosting company.
They would not have done that if it was just a matter of moving the website from iDisk to iCloud.
