Website for Classified ads

I am thinking of setting up a website were users would pay to post classified ads related to a specific industry. I have no experience of web design and have never created a website before.
Can anyone recommend a software package that I could use to do this or should I hire a professional company to do this for me?

Please let me know your thoughts,

Things to think about

In reply to: Website for Classified ads

Here is what you will need...

* A domain name (godaddy.com)
* A webhost (totalchoicehosting.com)
* Either a pre-existing script that will do what you want it to do (http://hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Classified_Ads/index.html), or I suggest you hire someone professional for that part.

To be successful, you need an easy to remember website name (domain), a webhost that allows you to expand shoudl business/traffic increase, and a website that works. You may want to find someone with a little but of web experience to partner up with, should you go with the pre-existing script (which would be much cheaper), but if you hire someone, they can design the script how you want, and make it customizable for you with or without much web experience.

I've given you some websites to look.

Let us know how it goes.

Hire or do it yourself (posted by Khotsana)

In reply to: Things to think about

I think you should either hire a profesional or learn to do it by yourself.

did mine by myself and it took me times because my knowledge in PHP
wasn't as high as now but it help me to improve my skills and at least,
if I think of adding a new feature, I just look for the right tutorials
from internet and can start to create my new page while if you hire
somebody, he will charge you everytime you think of something to add and
if you use a ready-to-use script you won't be able to do more than what
it offer already.

the way, people won't post if you ask them to pay BUT, if you offer
them to post for free and propose them to highlight their ads for a
little fee, some of them will pay. Once your traffic is good too, you
may offer the profesional to advertise you you by placing their banners
in your homepage or the category they think is relevant for their
