Webshots Desktop Issues

Jan 15, 2010 10:41AM PST

1. Okay, in switching between computers, and importing a whole ton of Webshots photos (the pro shots) that I have on the Webshots Desktop software from my old laptop onto my new one, I find I have a bunch of duplicates now. Yet when I delete one, it deletes both of them (or rather, deletes one and makes the other inaccessible, for all intents and purposes deleting it). How do I get it to delete just the one and not its duplicate?

Honestly, I wouldn't normally care about keeping the duplicates around, except for the issue in problem #2:

2. After approximately 130 photos are in an album on the Webshots Desktop software, it tells me I can't move any more photos into it. Is it possible to get it so each album can hold an unlimited number of photos? Why is there this limit to begin with?

3. And finally, does the Webshots website itself have a proper help forum? I know that their parent company is American Greetings, not CNET, but this place has a forum, whereas neither Webshots nor AG do. And Webshots' customer service people on email tend to be...not the most reliable, I'm afraid.

Thanks!

No, no, no. That's not what I'm asking.

I'm not asking about downloads; I'm already a paying member and can download as many as I like. That's not the problem.

The problem is the limited number of photos I can put into an album on my Webshots Desktop software AFTER they are ALREADY downloaded.

As for the FAQ page, I've already gone over it (and the Knowledge Base), multiple times, and it doesn't answer my questions. I've dealt with Webshots customer service over email before, and they're not extremely helpful. I was just hoping someone on here might know more than I do.

Just another thought

Where are these photos located on this new computer? All in the same folder, or different folders

Have you switched from a Windows OS like XP or earlier to Vista or Windows 7?

If these photos are showing as duplicates in the same folder, then I will have to pass on this problem.

But if the duplicates are showing up in different folders you may be coming up against Vista's and Win 7's new filing system. In those two new operating systems there are no longer the My Documents with My Pictures, My Music, etc. Instead the systems use Public folders. But, to cater for 'legacy' software that still relies on My Documents and My Pictures folders, Vista and Win 7 have shortcuts called "Junction Points" which are like imaginary folders.

This may look like you have duplicate photos in two locations, but you still only have one set.

Junction points.
