General discussion

Webpage with description/comparison on processors?

Nov 17, 2004 9:20PM PST

Out of curiosity, does anyone out there know of a good source that looks at chips, e.g. Pentium 4, Centrino, AMD, etc and offer a layman's overview of the relative merits of each?

Thanks,

Gus

Ryan did a great job of explaining the basics.

Next, some get fixated on the CPU. This is great for marketing but bad for the person trying to buy a new computer system.

You can have the latest P4/AMD at 3 plus GHz but it will seem like a dog running a game since someone fitted a cheap video card or put in 128 megabytes of RAM.

Some "balance" is needed.

Rob,

Agreed -- but am looking at this not in the search for a new system, but to get a better understanding of the relative merits of chips in isolation from other factors. So was hoping to find a single source that goes through all the major offerings.
Cheers,
Gus
