Webcams that don't work

Oh gosh I am stumped on this one. Used to have 98SE on my system and decided to upgrade to XP...Well realized the Logitech webcam doesn't work anymore, wasn't too bothered because I wasn't using it much. Then I decided to look for drivers for it and from what I gather Logitech decided to screw everyone over and not update any and therefore make this little webcam unusable on any XP running machines.

So, I went and got a new webcam (I swear I would never buy a Logitec again) actually I ended up buying 3 different ones and my PC did not recognize any of them. Tell a lie, it recognized the first one, but there were tonnes of little lines so I thought I guess that serves me right for getting a $30 webcam. Well you know the cheapest one was the only one that even (somewhat) worked...

See I thought maybe it was a USB issue, but no because my digital camera and printer (was) working fine....

In my utter frustration I went and got a Logitec again... ugh "plug and play" just plug it in on MSN and it should work ok...nope my system never ever recognized the camera.

So after taking all the cams back I thought ok I will reinstall XP and make sure no files are corrupted etc. get the updates like a good girl, did that and now my PC does not even recognize my digital camera.

I have tried everything I can think of, updating drivers etc. I do not know what I can do now...

Any suggestions?
My PC is AMD Duron 1.1, GHz 256MB RAM

A very common story.

What many were never told is that Microsoft does not install all the needed drivers for motherboard and more. USB 2.0 didn't function is XP until SP1 and for us was still buggy until SP2.

Plug and Play worked so well that it has been rewritten many times to such phrases as "Plug and Pray" or if you take it in to get fixed "Plug and Pay."

-> Yup, you do become a "Windows" computer expert eventually.

Maybe your driver is uncompatible with your operating system

In reply to: Webcams that don't work

I myself bought a different system, I had to go to the webcams maker's website to find a compatible driver. If that doesn't work, look on Microsoft's website for a compatible website.
