Question

Webcam keeps getting dropped

Jul 14, 2016 5:54AM PDT

I have a weather webcam (see it at www.bobhatcher.info) that all of a sudden is getting dropped from my network and I can't connect to it, nor is my FTP software able to send pictures to the website.. I've tried it with both over wifi and a wired connection (using a Netgear Powerline adapter) and the behavior is the same.

The only solution is to reboot the router. When I do that, the connection is restored within seconds. The router is Surfboard Motorola/Arris SBG6580-G228 Cable Modem Router.

The crazy thing is that my IP Scanner tells me that it is still connected but connecting to it through a browser fails. (When it's up, I simply go to 192.168.0.18:8965 and I can log onto the camera.)

Other than that, the router is perfect and there are no issues with the twenty or so devices connected to it either wired or via wifi.

I'm stumped as to whether it's the camera or the router. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I forgot to mention that it stays connected for 5 - 8 hours

I forgot to mention that it stays connected for 5 - 8 hours then it's dropped. For example, last night I rebooted the router at about 11pm and the last camera shot posted (i.e. the last time the camera was connected was 5:04 AM

Not a solution

Just sharing that my router had issues like that and every month I'd check for firmware updates. At some point the router stability was fixed. Haven't rebooted in 2 months. This can confound folk that think it's not the router because other devices work.
