Web page Searches

Oct 10, 2004 7:28AM PDT

I have so many in there on the various pages I go to that I cant see what I'm looking at. Is there a way to clean out the searches that have been saved on the web pages you visit so that when you click the cursor in the search bar there arent so many in there?

This is in IE.

What's this Firefox and where do I get it?

Not sure what searches you are talking about. I use the Google Toolbar for my searches. It also blocks popups and has other neat features. Download it at Google.

Firefox is a browser only created by Mozilla. Go to Mozilla.org for it.

There will be a box into which you can type your search. If you double click that box before typing anything into it, it will show a dropdown of your previous searches because apparently the browser remembers. Sometimes I reuse the same search if I want to go back to a certain page because it's easier than retyping the whole thing but there are a zillion of them in there now. Clearing out temporary internet files, cookies or history does not remove them. While you're at it how do I clear the urls out of my browser?

Ok, help me out here. What browser are you using? Is this search box part of the tool bar at the top of the browser or is in on the page itself?

If you're running IE, you might be talking about Autocomplete. Click Tools, Internet options, click the Content tab, then Autocomplete.

In ie which is what I use mostly out of convenience, but any that I type in using ie show up in any other browser as well. I'll look in auto complete but I didn't know there was a delete function...

That's a good one. I fixed mine like you want but I can't find what I did. Maybe someone else can help.

The Paranoia tab when using Microsoft's Power Toys TweakUI.

There's not one in TweakUI for XP.

Must have been my W98 machine. But there's no option in the XP version.

Check the "Clear Run history at logon" box to cause the history stored in the Run dialog of the Start menu to be erased each time you log on.

Note that this clears only the standard Explorer Run history. It does not clear the Run history for other applications such as Norton Navigator, nor does it clear the auto-filling of the Run history from your URL history.

This is a per-user setting.
