'Web Of Trust' Browser Extension Cannot Be Trusted

Nov 8, 2016 8:46AM PST

"The popular browser extension is selling very detailed information about you to third parties."

Browser extensions have become an essential part of surfing the Internet. They add security, useful extra features, and act as a testing ground for functionality that may eventually become a standard part of the most popular browsers.

Not all browser extensions can be trusted, though, and an investigation by German TV channel NDR has uncovered a serious breach of privacy by the Web Of Trust (WOT) service, which over 140 million Web surfers trust to help keep them safe online.

So, Ublock is a replacemenrt for WOT?
Nov 9, 2016 12:46AM PST

You are recommending Ublock Origin as a replacement for WOT?

I never used WOT as an adblocker so I am confused now what is what. I had been thinking of switching to Ublock Origin as a an alternative to ABP, (AdBlock Plus).

Also, just to be clear, you are talking about Ublock Origin and NOT Ublock?

Will have to check out Ublock now.

Just checked and I'm using Ublock Origin. For a few reasons. Mostly because of control, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UBlock_Origin clears that up.

1. Ublock is the old version or branch.
2. Also "WHY?" Ublock Origin is open source so we can see what it does.

Ubo is an ad blocker/bad site blocker/junk blocker depending on what filters you enable.

Example.....if I try to download some product from cnet ubo gets upset.
Perhaps because of the gifts that come along with the download.

Also it does not allow sites to 'buy in' and bypass the filters.

Any alternative

So, is there any alternative to this extension. I know most of the people are using this extension.
