Web Designing help

Feb 28, 2007 8:15PM PST

Hi,

I want to start a new website and have signed up with a hosting service that gives me Sitebuilder for free. I started creating the website with Sitebuilder but I cannot say it is as quick and easy as I was expecting. I am looking for something else that will help me create web pages with templated of course being welcomed. I do not know any coding so everything will have to feel like working on Powerpoint. Do you have any recommendations? Paid tools are fine but free would also be nice!

Thanks

I know exactly what you need. I have created my website using these guys and their templates are very professional and it works just like powerpoint just more professional. You can sign up for an account free for 30 days and they have great support. I recommend them to anyone.

Their prices include hosting and your own email address. i.e. you@yourwebsitename.com

Online or Offline

As apposed to softwares like SiteBuilder, where you are modifying the files online, maybe a program like FrontPage or Dreamweaver would be better, because you get a "visual" of what you are doing and don't have to be connected to the internet. You can use trial and error without breaking anything, and eventually just upload your results. That's how I started.

Thanks for this. I am looking for something that will be developed once and thereafter managed by me. The site will be updated daily with new pages/news (circa 55 pages) but I want to be able to do this. So think of it as a one time job, maybe a few explanations thereafter. Can you do something that like a template that I can use on Sitebuilder?

I want something simple, elegant, not too bloated, think of Digg but a little more visually appealling. Whatever software I use must be compatible with both mac and XP/Vista. I want to be able to change stuff like Word/Powerpoint with no much hussle. I am with Siteground.

FrontPage or Dreamweaver
Mar 2, 2007 9:28AM PST

I read a lot on the internet about how buggy and difficult Dreamweaver is. Is this the case? Not simple enough for someone who doesnt code? I think it is also quite expensive....

I am not sure about Frontpage as I would like simething compatible with mac as well....

I can help you to build that site. I just need to see your requirement, and what type of hosting plan do you have. Please visit my site and contact me if you're interested.

Donation are negotiable and if this is simple website, I can give it for very low price as I want to collect for my portfolio.

Thanks.

Everything you are saying is just what i was doing about a year ago. If you want to get dreamweaver its gonna cost anywhere from $200 to $700 and it requires that you learn a lot of coding (very frustrating). Frontpage runs about $200 but you also have to learn about coding. The company I use works on my ibook and my home PC. They give you a ton of options and its very professional looking. I am telling you give them a try and you wont be sorry. They dont even require a credit card to sign up. As far as "free-lancers" that offer to help you. I recommend against it because once they turn the website over to you, you are gonna need to know coding to edit your site.

Starting web

First of all I appreciate your spirit. As I have also started in designing with absolutely no prior experience.I will not give you dishonest feedback on this site. Please bare with me.I definately consult a web designing company - http://www.webdesigningcompany.net earlier regarding designing my website. From there I learn the designing basics ,they have a lot of supporting articles.which really helps a lot .Morever having a solid experience in web development they can empower your website with a comprehensive functionality (front-end and back-end) turning it from just a presentation to a robust business tool. What's in trying once.

what you are looking for you should try something like micosoft frotpage or publisher or something like that, specially publisher from microsoft office 03, has a bunch of templates that you can fill edit just like using powerpoint besides each template has different optios for layouts (inside the same template)

hope this helps, Marcelo.
