Question

Web Design ideas

Jan 31, 2015 5:52AM PST

I am wondering what things a web design company should consider when marketing services online. Would you stick soley to the design side or implement a sales platform for hosting and more?

Hosting rarely is configured or maintained by a Web Designer. While I may expect some smaller shops (say one man bands?) to be able to slam together a web server/service then show off their ideas it's usually departmentalized with one department running the server farms and the art departments running Web Design and maybe a third department for "ongoing maintenance."

That is, your auto designer does not built the factory or work the line. But there's a great idea isn't it (for the auto designer!)

Depends on where you want to take the business

If your passion is web design, stick with it. If you there isn't a lot of work, and you're interested in other areas like hosting, then I say explore that, too. If you have people in your company with that expertise or are willing to hire someone whose passion it is to manage infrastructure, then designing, building and hosting websites do go hand in hand, so it is a logical, next step for expanding your services.
