Have you tried a registry repair program?? There is a variety of them in downloads section. May want to reinstall the xfire & the launcher. I would bet their installs include software that effects the advertising & software & avatars involved. If that does not do it, and you think the actual windows system remains damaged, a procedure called SFC/SCANNOW may be a option.
So i was just browsing the web when all of a sudden my computer detected a backdoor in my system registry. It let in like 3 different Trojans, including a program called Spyware Protector 2009, which I know is a fake anti spyware program. So I ran Norton 360, Avg, and Spybot and got rid of everything. And then ran them all 2 times over with no threats detected anymore.
Now when i start web applications like xfire, and my World of Warcraft launcher, all the web ads on those don't display. And its not just ads, its avatars, photos and stuff like that. Although it had no effect on my actually browser. Its just an annoying problem I want to fix, plz help!
