Question

Weather App quit working

Jan 3, 2016 1:55PM PST

Shutdown computer last night, turned it on this morning and the 'app' quite working. Got one of those messages from windows – “A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.” Rebooted computer twice – no go.

O.K. then. Uninstalled and reinstalled, no luck. Tried to download Weather Channel app – no go – clicking on download link and nothing happened. O.K. Tried to download Accuweather app – same result – clicking on “link” and nothing happened. Tried different sources, Cnet etc.

Any suggestions or “good” links. Dell computer, windows 10 – no other issues. Computer works fine otherwise. I like to have the “temperature” on my task bar as I go walking everyday and its a nice guide.

Thanks in advance

Well, that didn't help

All I saw was people with the same basic issue and no one had an answer. I decided to do a system restore. That resolved the issue of "my" weather app not working. After a couple of hours I rebooted again to make sure it was still working. I tried to click a download for the weather channel and accuweather and I still could not download either one. So there is still that. I am able to go to filehippo and click on a download "link", like firefox, and that worked fine, so I have no idea why I can't download a 'weather app'.

I wonder if you need to have "edge" or Internet Explorer to get some of those download links to work. And I don't have either and I couldn't find an easy way to download either of "them".

Thanks anyway Mr. Proffitt

That's the new thing.

No one digs into this anymore if System Restore or resets fix it. Partly because it's a lot of work, partly because I find folk ask many questions when I need a HIJACKTHIS or other log file. So we are stuck with folk that just want it fixed by having others dig into the PC for them. Not sure where this will lead us in a declining Windows world.

I think the weather app is linked to Edge.

Reformat
Jan 3, 2016 6:32PM PST

Like a lot of people, I assume, I updated to windows 10 from 8.1 when it became available, in July. So, during the second week of December, after doing all kinds of stuff, I used to do that a "lot", I decided to do the 'new' reset your pc thing. Telling myself that I didn't intend to do that "sort of thing" anymore. Since I didn't 'need' "Edge", I got rid of it. Don't remember how. I'm sure I did the Google thing to get rid of it. I had removed "Edge" shortly after I installed windows 10 the first time. "Linked" to Edge, well I saw that in order to install, I think it was 'accuweather', I needed "ITunes". Well I didn't need that, so that was a stop. Maybe I will try and see if I can reinstall "Edge". I did try, but not very hard. Anyway, for now, my weather app is working. By the way its called "Weatherbug", and it works great.

Thanks for replying

Good luck with that

A few years back I tried Weatherbug . Not only was it a resource hog but had adware and other bloat attached and also crashed the computer .

As far as You removing Edge goes, I have read that it can be done but I would have just chosen not to use it as Edge is connected to other things that may not run properly without it.

Good luck

Have used Weatherbug for years

Anyway, since I can't seem to download any "other" weather app its a mute point. Unless I decided to reformat again. It took about 'six' hours last month, and that was without having any issues during the process, including reinstalling all my programs and resetting everything the way I like it. Good thing I have it all written down.
Thanks again
