Question

Weak Signal Alert

Aug 28, 2018 7:56PM PDT

About four or five months ago I was using Roku to watch Acorn mystery shows, but when I recently went back to use Roku I was given an alert that my power and signal were low. Why would I have plenty of power some months ago, but I'm told I lack the power now to be connected with Roku? Anyway, I would like to solve this problem and get connected with Roku again. I have Windows 10. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Does your roku player/stick get it's power from the tv or a wall outlet?

What roku unit do you have?

Your not answering the question.

Where does the roku get it's power from?

Usb or a wall outlet?

Power comes from USB power cable that is plugged into TV.

Your roku should have come with an A/C power adapter.

Test using that.

Hi Bob,

My system is set up just like it was four or five months ago
when I was able to go to Roku and watch programs from
Acorn. My High Speed HDMI cable connects the streaming player
to the TV. The USB power cable and power adapter
connect the streaming player to the wall outlet. But
I am getting a "no connection to the internet or a weak
signal" message.

Thanks for helping me,

It may be time to contact roku support and have chat.

Hi Bob,

I contacted Roku and they said I needed to contact my internet provider. I contacted
my internet provider and they said perhaps I needed to speed up my computer. When I was using Roku before the problem, my speed was sufficient, so why would I need to add more speed now?

Thanks again,

Philip

So now we have moved from power to the roku unit and into to how fast your router can supply data to the roku unit.

Since you know what internet speed you paying for run this test.

Getting something close?

Hi Bob,

I went to http://www.speedtest.net/ and clicked on the go button and
it came to Mbps 8:15. Think we are getting close to the solution?

Thank you for helping me,

That's the speed your isp can feed your pc data.

However it's also using a nearby server.

Is that the sort of speed your paying for?

Answer
Time to try a wall adapter.

Updates can push the stick or such harder so there's that.

Hi Proffitt,

Thank you for the wall adapter idea.

Hi Proffitt,

I am using the power adapter that connects the
streaming player to the wall outlet.

And did it help?

The issue was " an alert that my power and signal were low." So what issue remains? If the power is low then the wall adapter should clear that up and possibly the WiFi low signal as well. If the WiFi signal has an issue you need to reduce the distance to the router.

At the very least power cycle the router.

PS for Netflix we need about 5 megabits or better.

Proffitt,

I have Roku Express+ and a Westinghouse TV. I found out on the internet
that Roku requires Mbps of 9 and I have about 8 and a half. I guess I need
to somehow increase my Mbps to at least nine to have a stronger signal
for HD.
