Question

"We couldn’t Create a new partition " HELP!!!

Apr 2, 2017 6:12AM PDT

Recently my computer gained a virus so I decided to format my HDD. How ever, I couldn't get passed the dreaded ""We couldn’t Create a new partition or locate an existing one." screen.

I did everything on this site http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/manage-partition/we-could-not-create-a-new-partition-or-locate-an-existing-one.html

Which includes re-plugging my usb boot and running Diskpart. But I still cant get it to start. Please help me ?!

Added stuff: I dont have a disk drive and the only option is usb.

I hope this clarifies things a little :)

I'm a girl not that it matters. But what I was attempting to say is. I do not have an optical DVD drive. I do not own one because I never felt as if I needed one up until maybe now. I'm installing Windows 8.1 from my 8 gigabyte thumb drive to my hard drive. I really hope that clarifies things.

which one?
Apr 2, 2017 2:03PM PDT

the 32 bit or the 64 bit version? Reason I ask is the 64 bit one uses GPT partition setup and the 32 bit one uses MBR type partition setup. Is that what was on here before, or some other operating system? Was the previous system 32 bit or 64 bit? Is this a newer UEFI capable computer?

Its the 64 verison
Apr 2, 2017 2:11PM PDT

Its the 64 version .I thought I had to ram for the 32.

try this then...
Apr 2, 2017 2:20PM PDT

Using GParted, delete all partitions. Go then to header "Device" and use the "Create Partition Table" and set to GPT, not MBR. Do not actually create partitions. Try to install windows again. If windows asks if you want GPT or MBR, then choose GPT.

Still unclear.

ISO file?
Apr 2, 2017 2:50PM PDT

You downloaded an ISO file for windows 8 and then "burned image" to the USB? Did you check the ISO file first using md5sum program to determine if the file you received matched the hash expected? It would be a shame if the ISO file got hit up during download and is defective, and that's the problem, after all you've done today.

In Linux, one of the first things we learn to do is always verify the ISO first. Detecting a bad download saves a lot of grief later.

I am hearing we all different iso hashes. I suspect the install.esd is the reason.

Can you all please post the hashes for your install.esd file, then we can see.

Here are the ones I have right now:

Mods know about this and if you tell us, we understand.

BTW, I worry there is something wrong with the PC, drive or connection. If this was mine, I'd have to test the drive on another PC.

With your post in multiple forums and the Q+A in each it's a little tough to follow.

What machine do you have?......make and model
What OS are you trying to install and where did you get it from?
What is the background that got you into this reinstall?
