The USB 1.1 ports sometimes find us with hard disks that don't work but memory sticks do. Try some USB 2.0 PCI card next.

power supply is not enough

There also maybe a reason, the power supply is not enough. You may try a Two-connector cable.

Dear easeus,
Thanks for your help.
I have checked yesterday when i connect "WD1600" to my rear port it gives me error power surge(This i have experienced even with memory stick also Note: this is USB 1.1 port). I have 4 more USB port headers on MB, I was using these port from long time & never had any problems with memory stick till i used "WD1600". I have measured DC voltage at external drive end & found it is 3.8V DC & activity/power light start blinking. I have soldered extension cable directly to MB headers now drive started working (windows/Linux).
Thanks again.
