WD My passport no longer recognized in explorer

Oct 19, 2010 3:04AM PDT

I had my passport plugged into my WD Media player and it fell off shelve and wasn't eject properly. Now its not recognized on my Computer or WD media player. I see it in Device Manager but not in explorer.

Up until now its been working fine. I tried other computers and nothing. I have an Acer laptop.

If it is not recognised in other computers

then you may have to accept that the hard drive is damaged.

Those are thrown away, including all data on them that has become unreadable. If it's sensitive data, the disk is physically destroyed for security reasons.

You wouldn't believe how many people use such a disk as storage and don't have another copy of those data. They have to choose between losing all and paying a 4-digit (in USD) amount to a professional data recovery company.

You do have backups, don't you?
