electronic devices do fail from time to time sorry to say. Now is the time to isolate whether it's the case or the harddrive. But whatever you do, DO NOT FORMAT the harddrive. You can buy a new Hdd. and put it in this case to see if the case is ok or not...or you can put the old Hdd. in a new case and see if it works or not. Either way, the expense is about the same.

If the problem is with the Hdd. data recovery will be more involved. I hope it's a bad enclosure. I might also noted that there are two types of Hdd.; ide and sata, be sure you find ou which tpye you got in there. Good luck.

Have you tried plugging it in via the USB?
Have you changed or modified any drivers?
I'm taking it that it once worked on that computer.

Seeing that it's a Western Digital, they have a great support website with all of the files you need. Check with them if what you've read so far doesn't work.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
